Ranakpur
The journey from Jodhpur to Udaipur took us from the desert scenes through scrubland into more arable terrain as we reached Ranakpur – a magnificent selection of Jain temples. Judging by the number of tourists these temples are not a well concealed secret.
The official interpreter of dress code decided that my shorts did not show suitable reverence and a rather tacky pair of powder blue over-trousers was required. My carefully compiled sartorial elegance is temporarily disturbed – luckily the paparazzi were distracted by other opportunities so my image is untarnished.
It is hard to do justice in a description to the scale and intricacy of the stone carvings.
