Started in 1589 Raja Raislngh Ji, the 6th Ruler of Rathore and stayed with the Rathore rulers until Partition in 1949. Not the most imposing fort apparently but the decorative interiors and sculpted stone are almost unrivalled in Rajasthan in their magnificence. Anything I can say will not do it any justice. Such beautiful colours.
And the people were so friendly. I helped one particularly short Indian to take a photograph over a glass screen and then he went and assembled his whole family to come and shake my hand. “This is wonderful Mr Beeeeeel from England who helped me take this photograph” (camera handed round like a precious gem). Then they all clapped and then he said “you bring me and my family great joy; this is a wonderful day”. Indeed it was a wonderful day. When I got back to the hotel Donny was relaxing on a swing in the garden like The Don he is and feeling almost ‘repaired’ to full health.
