These boots are made for promenading??

Before reading this, you need to know that I do not have a history of falling to the charms of the salesperson...

The young man in Ellis Brigham Manchester shop looked OK and I quickly noticed his junior management potential. Not to overstate it but it was there. Told him I needed boots - going anywhere interesting? - India - where in India? - Rajasthan & Punjab - going to Shimla? - yes - Wow, I was there last year - you need boots? these boots were made for Rajasthan and the 'promenade' in Shimla - 'promenade'? - yes, you'll find it and you'll be looking good in these fine North Face boots - tried them on and they seemed harmless enough - OK wrap them, and the rucksack, both of them....

With pride and dreams of Shimla flooding my head, I wore the 'promenade' boots around the house last Sunday and was near crippled in under two hours.

It's Thursday now and my foot is recovering. The return of the 'promenade' boots is at the 'stand-off' stage but I'm confident they will be going back. Billo
