Folk Night at the Hotel Paradiso

Those who know the Paradiso in Amsterdam, especially back in the day, will know that it has a well earned reputation for ‘lots of things’…!!! So we were very excited to read about the Folk Night at the Hotel Paradiso Jaisalmer starting at sunset and then into the starry starry night. Paradiso has a lot of connotations not only in Amsterdam but also in the deserts of New Mexico and South California – places where Joe Ely and Robbie Robertson play.

Can you picture the scene? – setting sun, beautiful standstone buildings, gentle breeze, stars, the cool people arriving in curtained Ambasadors, the clanking jewelry, the snake skin boots…. All with the best musician in the hood.Well none of that – the act had accepted a better paid booking in the desert and the event was cancelled. Donny and I were the only two people there.
We gently tapped our feet and hummed Ilkley Moor Batat, Those Were the Days and Donny went solo for Bernard Cribbins classic The Hole in the Ground.
